Lectures, Catechism Samedi 14 Decembre 2024

Technically apologetics again, but it's cool.
Orthodox Apologetics, Seminar Lecture #2: Eastern Vs. Western Views of
"Atonement" + Catechism by Fr. Paul Truebenbach here

Learning catechism is important because it follows what God teaches us in
the Scriptures about passing His truth to others. In Deuteronomy 6:6-7,
it says, "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your
hearts. Teach them to your children. Speak of them when you sit at home,
when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up." This
shows that teaching the faith is something God wants us to do all the
time. Catechism is a way to do this, giving clear and simple lessons to
help us know God better and live as He calls us to live.

Paul tells us in Titus 2:1 to "teach what is appropriate to sound doc-
trine," and catechism helps with this by showing us the truths about God,
salvation, and how to live as Christians. The Bible also says in 2 Tim-
othy 3:16-17 that "All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant
of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." By learning
catechism, we prepare ourselves to stay strong in faith and defend the
truth when we are challenged. It helps us grow in wisdom and walk in
God's way, fulfilling His command to share His Word and live in His will.

 Politics Samedi 14 Decembre 2024
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christian leftism, especially Christian communism, comes from the Bible
with ideas like equality, sharing, and caring for the poor. In Acts 2:44-
45, it says, "All the believers were together and had everything in com-
mon. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need."
This shows how the first Christians lived, sharing everything, like how
Jesus taught us to love and help each other. It is about making a society
where everyone is cared for, like God's Kingdom on Earth. In Orthodoxy,
we don't talk about politics like that, but we do teach about love and
responsibility. The Fathers of the Church, like St. Basil, said we must
help the poor. He said, "The bread you keep belongs to the hungry; the
coat you hide belongs to the naked." In Orthodoxy, we also say people are
connected, and we must work together with God (synergia) to make the
world better. Christian communism is like this-it is about love, justice,
and mercy, and helping each other to live like Christ taught us.

Christian communism shows how the teachings of Jesus and the life of the
first Church are against greed and for sharing and justice. In Acts 2:44-
45, it says, "All the believers were together and had everything in com-
mon. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need."
This way of living, called *koinonia*, was not about rules but about love-
a deep love for God and for others. It was how the first followers of
Jesus survived and helped each other. Many believe Jesus Himself was the
first communist, teaching that wealth must be given to the poor, as when
He said, "Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will
have treasure in heaven" (Luke 18:22). The Church Fathers, like St. Basil,
said that keeping wealth while others are poor is a sin: "The bread you
store belongs to the hungry, the coat you hide belongs to the naked."

Through history, Christians who wanted to follow this way fought against
the rich and powerful who took everything for themselves. Groups like the
Apostolic Brethren and the Diggers believed land and goods should be shared
for everyone's good. Even in modern times, people like Fidel Castro and
Ernesto Cardenal saw how the words of Jesus, especially in the Sermon on
the Mount, speak against systems like capitalism that build on greed. They
believed Jesus was not just a teacher of heaven but of justice on earth.
Christian communism is this same vision: living for others, helping the
poor, and standing against anything that creates suffering or inequality.
It is both faith and action, bringing God's Kingdom here through love,
sharing, and justice.

Let's not kid ourselves, Jophiel hasn't been allowed to be around in
ages because of what she did. No, I don't know what she did. But I
thought it was sad that she didn't have her own page, so I tried to
write the way she would until she can come and replace my stuff wi-
th her own. It's Sunday. Sundays aren't the same without the Chris-
tians. I miss them both despite our religious differences. I'll
make the other Christian her page too, I know a little about what
she wanted it to be (technically the wish tree is hers as well).

When making this page, I found myself in a pit of sadness that
felt heavy the way blood feels heavy.
